Salt water therapy

I’ve had a few conversations with other trauma survivors recently about how we heal. No person’s experience of trauma is alike. What works for one person will not always work for another.

But it has made me think hard about what it is that I find healing. Yoga, Pilates, meditation, running, diarising, time with my son and husband.

Top of the list though is being in the water. It’s the middle of winter here in Australia and I’ve still battling this neck infection, but I made time this morning to go and dip my feet into the water and have a cup of tea.

The healing benefits of salt water are well documented, but did you know there’s also a benefit to winter swimming specifically?

Research shows cold-water swimming activates temperature receptors under the skin that release hormones such as endorphins, adrenalin and cortisol.

Our world is just incredible. The more I learn, the more amazed I am at how so many elements of nature are built to help us heal and thrive
